Pastor-  Rev. Kevin Jackson

Rev. Kevin Jackson, Mary Ann and Perrin

My name is Kevin Jackson. I was born and raised in Huntingdon, Tennessee. When I was in the tenth grade, my family moved to Grenada, Mississippi. I graduated from Grenada High School in 1997. After high school, I attended and graduated from the University of Mississippi. In 2001, I married Mary Ann Oakes of Grenada. We have two daughters, one named Perrin Elizabeth and another named Mary Pinson. They are the joy of our lives.

I became a Christian when I was fourteen years old. I was raised in church, yet was unconverted. God used the process of moving to Grenada, Mississippi to show me my need of Christ. So, I trusted Christ’s provision for my sin and he changed me.

When I was eighteen years old, I attended a church camp. God used that week to call me to gospel proclamation. The verse He used to pierce my soul was Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I have appointed you to be a prophet to the nations.”

The ultimate goal for my ministry to the church is to glorify God. The immediate goal is three fold. First, I wish to preach expositional messages through books of the Bible to cultivate the church’s spiritual life in light of the gospel. I believe that preaching is a weighty task. I see the pulpit as a place where God communicates his will, way and decree to his people. As the preacher, I stand in a holy and solemn place before God and his people. My preaching philosophy comes from the apostle’s letter to Colosse, chapter one verses five and six, which state, “Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing--as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth”. My passion is for people to hear and understand the grace of God in truth so that it will bear fruit and grow in the whole world.

Second, I wish to enjoin the church in prayer to see God draw near to and use us. I believe that prayer is essential for the purity of the local church. In prayer, we seek to have God change us into reflections of his glory so that we may change our situations. Prayer is the way that God has ordained his son’s life to be nourished within us. In prayer, we are admitting our poverty and his riches, our bankruptcy and his bounty, and our dependence on him for life, breath, and spiritual passion.

Third, I wish to evangelize the nations by training the members of First Baptist church to present a clear and articulate explanation of the gospel. Every Christian is responsible for carrying the gospel to the nations. I desire to teach and train the church to explain the gospel so that we can fulfill the Great Commission of our Lord.

The ultimate goal of First Baptist church is found in Hebrews 10:23, which says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess.”

What do I mean by that?
Well, first, that means that we are committed to the Bible, God’s inerrant and infallible Word, as the final authority in faith and life, and so we view the faithful preaching (and hearing) of His Word as essential to growth in the Christian life. While other churches question the Bible’s authority or look to another source of truth for guidance or downplay the ministry of the Word, we remain deliberately committed to expository preaching and teaching of the Word.

Second, we are committed to the historic gospel. That means we believe “God saves sinners by pardoning their sin and accepting them as righteous in His sight by the righteousness of Christ imputed to them.” This is the rich motto of our faith. While some churches are abandoning or “updating” this gospel, we are purposely proclaiming, “the faith once-delivered.”

Third, holding fast without wavering, means that we are committed to the Great Commission, and so we support Southern Baptist missionaries and evangelists at home and abroad. Yes, God saves sinners but He has appointed means for doing so. “Faith comes by hearing” Paul said. So, we are determined to be faithful in doing and supporting the work of evangelism here and around the world.

Fourth, this also means we are committed to the Biblical teaching on the communion of the saints, and so seek to foster real Christian fellowship, mutual concern, and love in the life of the congregation. Programs and committees are no substitute for holy and compassionate relationships. We aim to be what God calls His people to be: a family—naturally and practically caring for one another in the good times and the bad. Our goal, then, is to be a loving community of believers in Christ, truly committed to one another, who live out an unprogrammed discipleship and witness.

Finally, like our forefathers, we know that the problems of today have no human solution. We believe that the only hope for the world is in the spiritual regeneration of souls wrought by God through Jesus Christ, and so we are committed to fervent prayer that God would send revival in our lives, our church, our city and our land.

At First Baptist, we have a variety of ministries to serve children, youth and adults. I believe you will find our church to be a warm, friendly place where you can grow in your faith and discover more of God’ plan for your life. We look forward to having you worship with us!
