On Mission with Jesus

1

Have you ever heard someone in the church say, "Why are we going on a mission trip overseas?  Why are we spending money on International Missions?   Are there not enough lost people in our own community?  Couldn't our money be used in our own city?   These are questions that may or may not get asked, but I know many are thinking the same thing. How are you to respond?   I am reminded what Luke 4:42-43 says, "Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place.  And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them; but He said to them, 'I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.'"  Did you catch that?  The crowd didn't want Jesus to leave.  They wanted Him to stay and not go anywhere else.  But Jesus said, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also."

We, as believers, have a commission to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20).  We have a mandate to be witnesses at home but also to the uttermost (Acts 1:8).  We must take the Gospel wherever the Lord may open a door of opportunity.  If it is in our community, then Go and make Disciples.  If it is in the mountains of Montana, then Go and make Disciples.  If it is in the villages of Guatemala, then Go and make Disciples.  If it is in the jungles of Africa, then Go and make Disciples.  Every second, someone is dying without Christ!!!!  It is our mission as the church to take the Gospel to them.  I encourage anyone who questions the need for International Missions to simply go on an International Mission Trip.  You will never be the same.  The Lord will show you the need for the Gospel to be taken around the world but also challenge you to be a faithful witness at home.

May we not just keep Jesus for our self.  May we share the good news of Jesus to those in our own community, but also to those who have never heard.

Revelation 7:9-10, “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.’” What a day that will be!!!!
